My little one is in preschool, so I feel like the ABCs are my life right now! I created many fun alphabet-themed activities for him that I will be sharing on the blog. This is the first! It is a set of scriptures that help little ones understand what God is like. Each characteristic begins with a different letter of the alphabet. Many of these words are big for a three- or four-year-old, but there is absolutely no harm in introducing them early! I have included some ideas for helping explain these big words to little ones.

How to Use These Scriptures
Many preschools introduce the alphabet by having a “letter of the week”, where activities in the classroom are based on a specific letter each week. I love this method, because kids get a lot of repetition to help them learn the individual letters. Here, the repetition will also help them to learn about God!
Here is an example of how I would use these scriptures.
If starting with the letter A…
- Every day, read the statement about God’s character. As the week progresses, see if the children remember it on their own.
- God is Awesome!
- Every day, read the scripture that supports the character statement.
- Psalm 66:5 says, “Come and see the works of God, who is awesome in His deeds toward the sons of men.”
- Every day, ask the children if they know what the character trait means.
- What do you think it means when we say that God is Awesome?
- Do you remember what “awesome” means?
- Every day, help the children to understand the character trait and the meaning of the verse.
- When we say that God is Awesome, it means that God is super duper amazing! God does so many awesome things!
- Engage the children by asking a question.
- What super duper amazing things can you think of that God has done?
Hopefully, by the end of the week, the children will remember all on their own that “God is Awesome”, and that means “He is super duper amazing”.
