Pretty acrylic butterflies and flowers suspend in a mason jar in this fun and easy craft.
Some people are really great at decorating their home. I am not one of those people. I would like to be, though! A few years ago I decided to buy a few seasonal home decor items because I love the seasons and wanted to change things up from time to time.
I have a small basket that I fill with table scatter. Leaves for autumn, snowflakes for winter… but in years past it has been hard for me to find things for spring and summer. Recently I came across this cute bag of acrylic butterflies and flowers, and I had two thoughts simultaneously: “This will be great for my basket for spring!” and “This would be fun in a mason jar craft!” So now I have a small start to my spring home decor, and a new craft.
Mason jars with clear water beads and trinkets are one of my favorite crafts to make. They are super simple and look really neat because the trinkets look like they are suspended inside the jar. I simply hydrate the water beads, then put them in the jar along with the trinkets. Then I fill up the jar with water and push the trinkets around with a wooden dowel until I am happy with the way everything looks.
Sometimes I like a random kind of look. Other times, I have a specific vision in my mind and I try to create a picture inside the jar. Either way is fun. You can really spend as much (or as little) time as you would like to on this craft.
A Note on Water Beads
In the past I have always used MarvelBeads water beads. I originally bought them for the kids to play with. When I discovered how neat it was to do Mason Jar crafts with them, I would manually separate clear water beads from the kids’ multi-color pack. It was tedious work. I finally decided to purchase a bag of just clear beads for my crafting so I would no longer have to sort them. I really like the new kind that I bought. They end up being smaller and firmer than MarvelBeads. Both these qualities make them much easier to work with in this kind of craft. I have a link to them below.
