Bible Verses That Bring Comfort During Trials

Reading through the Bible is one of my favorite things to do. I am fascinated by how applicable it is to my life today, even though it was written so long ago.

Many years ago I started a scripture notebook. As I read through the Bible, I wrote down every verse that brought me hope, inspiration, and peace. This notebook is a treasure to me now. I read it when life gets difficult, I share verses with friends and family, and a few times I have even hand copied the entire thing to give to someone in need.

There is power in Scripture. Power that overcomes the darkness in this world. It gives strength and courage, perspective and peace.

Below are some of my favorite verses from my scripture notebook. I pray that they bring you comfort. Write down your favorites. Start your own notebook. Read the Bible. Draw close to God in your trials. He is with you always (Matthew 28:20b).

Bible Verses That Bring Comfort

John 16:33b – “In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I [Jesus] have overcome the world.”

Matthew 11: 28-30 – “Come to Me [Jesus], all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Psalms 55:22 – Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.

Psalms 91:15 – “He will call upon Me [God], and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.”

Psalms 34:19 – Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

Psalms 71:20 – You who have shown me many troubles and distresses will revive me again, and will bring me up again from the depths of the earth.

Romans 8:28 – And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Psalms 18:6 – In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry for help before Him came into His ears.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Psalms 46:10 – “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalms 139:11-12 – If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, and the light around me will be night,” even the darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.

1 Peter 5:10 – After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Job 23:8-10 – Behold, I go forward but He [God] is not there, and backward, but I cannot perceive Him; when He acts on the left, I cannot behold Him; He turns on the right, I cannot see Him. But He knows the way I take; when He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Jeremiah 31:13 – Then the young woman will rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old, together, for I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and give them joy for their sorrow.
