*** Thousands of infants and children have ended up in the hospital after ingesting water beads and many retailers are no longer selling them. I have removed my water bead product links out of an abundance of caution. ***
One of my favorite ways to create discovery bottles is with clear water beads and tiny trinkets. As long as the trinkets are not orientation-sensitive – like this one – it is super easy and quick!
I was wandering through Hobby Lobby one October day and I was surprised to see that there was already quite a bit of Christmas stuff out. I really shouldn’t be surprised, that is just how craft stores are, but it does take me off guard. I found myself browsing through the Christmas aisles and came across these cute Christmas light buttons that I knew would work great in a water bead sensory bottle.
Once the water beads were hydrated, I just alternated a handful of clear water beads, then a couple of buttons, all the way up the bottle. I filled the bottle with water so that I could see all of the Christmas light buttons and used a wooden dowel to push them around a little bit until I was satisfied with how the bottle looked. I finished it off by adding more water beads, really pushing them down to hold everything in place, then adding water all the way to the top and putting on the lid. It was as simple as that.
I really like the way the bottle looks with my sensory bottle light (see how I made it here). One cool thing about discovery bottles made with clear water beads is that since the contents don’t shift and the bottle doesn’t need to be shaken up, it can be used as decor around the home.
