Color Shifting Glitter Bottle

Larger purple glitter sinks faster than the smaller blue glitter in this Color Shifting Glitter Bottle, creating a cool color shifting effect.

I have been buying a lot of glitter for my sensory bottles lately, so I thought it would be a good idea to invest in a multi-pack so that I would have a bunch of colors on hand and I wouldn’t have to run out to the store every time I wanted a new color. The multipack has come in very handy and I think the purchase was well worth it. It will last a long time.

When I brought it home, I was admiring all of the different colors and I noticed a very slight inconsistency in the size of the glitter flakes. I checked the packaging, and it said that there was supposed to be 17 shakers of fine glitter and 4 shakers of jumbo glitter. However, I noticed two shakers that had glitter flakes slightly larger than the rest of the “fine” glitter. It made me wonder what it would look like if I combined the two different sizes of glitter in one bottle. I had to experiment!

I set up my favorite liquid ingredients for glitter bottles, then added equal amounts of blue “fine” glitter and purple “slightly larger than fine” glitter. The results were pretty cool. When I shake the bottle, the two colors mix, and I can see the blue and purple glitter swirling together. Since the purple glitter is larger, it falls to the bottom faster, leaving the blue glitter suspended. It takes about two minutes for the purple glitter to fall to the bottom, and five minutes for the blue glitter. It looked even better when I used my sensory bottle light (see this post to find out how I made it).

I tried a couple of other color combinations, but none of them seemed to work quite as well as the blue/purple combination. I also tried combining fine glitter with medium glitter and jumbo glitter, and it just didn’t have the same color shifting effect.

        1. Hi Sheila, I just explain how to make them on my blog. I have looked into making them to sell, but unfortunately, it is not cost effective for me at this time. They are super fun to make, you should try it! 😉

    1. Hi Diane,
The sensory bottle light can be put under the bottle, or in some cases, it works better if the sensory bottle is upside down with the light on top. 🙂

  1. I made this today with my 5-year-old son. It’s beautiful!! We added about double the glitter and it’s perfect. Our results were best when we filled it to the top.

  2. I’m so excited to make this tonight!! I’m a preschool teacher and we’ve been looking for a calming bottle that takes a while to settle! 7 minutes is perfect. Thanks for sharing!!
